The Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), Edo State Chapter, has observed with serious concern the activities of certain unscrupulous individuals and unlicensed practitioners conducting visual screenings in churches and other non-clinical environments across the state.
We hereby advise the general public to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to quackery. Your eye health and safety remain our top priority.
Please be informed that the records and licences of all certified eye-care practitioners are duly maintained by the Association. This matter is being formally reported to the appropriate regulatory board, and necessary actions will be taken against anyone found violating professional standards.
For clarity, Dispensing Opticians are not eye doctors in Nigeria. Their professional role is limited to the fabrication, fixing, and glazing of prescription lenses and eyeglasses. They are not trained or licensed to diagnose, screen, or treat eye diseases.
The public is strongly advised to seek eye care only from licensed Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
